The Bible has been handed down for generations in the language of the Israelites or Hebrews and finally fixed in writing in Hebrew. The books of this first Bible were translated 400 years before Christ into Aramaic (also the language of Jesus) and later translated into Greek. 500 to 600 years later, approximately in the second century AD, the translation of the biblical texts into Latin took place. At the same time, every translation of the Bible is a reinterpretation that offers and provides ample material for discussion. For a translation not only conveys the literary wording of the Bible, but also the theological content.
The Luther Bible has been revised several times and linguistically since the first edition of 1534. Nevertheless, it is still the official Bible edition of the Protestant Church. Luther's literary estate is also enormous. He was not only a reformer, he is also one of the most important German authors of all time. His literary work is vast, his meaning for the Germanists comparable to the Goethe or Thomas Mann.
